Western Railway Station.
AND NOW FOR THE DOWNSIDE:
Paramilitary Nazi units are organized freely today. Note the uniforms, practically the same as they were during the Holocaust when the forefathers of hese groups murdered Jews themselves, or helped deporting them to their deaths in Auschwitz, Mauthausen, Dachau, Bergen Belsen, or other concentration camps.
January 18th is the Day of Remembrance, the anniversary of the liberation of the Budapest Ghetto.Altogether 600 000 Hungarian Jews were murdered in the Holocaust, 150 000 were children under the age 14
HORTHY, responsible for anti Jewish laws, and the escalating antisemitic propaganda between the two wars, as well as the deportation and extermination of 600 000 Hungarian Jews, is the iconic figure for the Hungarian Nazis. His statues though provoking adverse opinions from antifascists, were allowed and supported by the country’s official leaders.
Statue of martyred Hungarian Jewish poet Miklós Radnóti, set up close to the place he was murdered in 1944.Only about a week after this picture was taken, two Nazi thugs drove a car into the statue and broke it into two. After a serious outcry from the Jewish community, they were fined only50 000 Forints ( app. 250 US dollars)
Brave stand against Nazis is rare. Here the ex Prime Minister of Hungary (an exception to the rule) can be seen on an antifascist Protest March with a board on his chest with “I AM A GIPSY TOO” written on it. Today Gipsies are the number one targets of the Neonazi movements here.
